Vintage Bridal Shoot

In January, I had the pleasure of working with photographer Paul Erlich of Steven Paul Photography and local bridal designer Stephanie Dong of Stephanie D Couture.  Stephanie has launched a beautiful vintage inspired bridal line. You can see her gowns here: www.stephaniedcouture.com.

I was honored with the assignment of creating the hair and make up "look" for our model Sami Van Der Westhhuizen. I was inspired by the movie "The Great Gatsby". Sami had really short hair so I did my best "finger wave" type updo by curling her hair with a hot 1" curling iron. I set the curls by clipping them to her head for an hour while her make up was being applied. After I took out the pins I gently brushed her hair into the shape I needed and set it with a lot of CHI Megavolume hard hold hair spray. This helped the hair style stay in place.

Her make up was kept very matte, as were the cosmetics in the 1920's. I used MAC's Face and Body foundation on her face and neck. This foundation gives a more matte finish compared to other types of MAC foundations. (It's great for those with oily/combination skin). I set it with MAC's translucent HD powder. I used a rose coral blush by Chanel on her cheeks. Her eyes were lined with MAC's black gel liner and were transformed using a few MAC eye shadows in cool and warm tones. I used a few browns and beige also. After curling and applying mascara, I applied MAC #7 lashes to give her eyes that "dramatic" effect I was looking for. Last but not least her lips were lined then covered in NYX Matte in dark red with a lip brush.

The photo shoot lasted for almost 5 hours. As you can see from the photo it was a success! More photos are to come!
